Back-To-School Dental Tips 

The summer is a fun time for kids. They do not really adhere to any rules while they are having fun. So, it is possible that your children may have taken less care of their teeth than they do at other times of the year. This is completely normal. However, it is important to prepare them for starting school again. Take care of your child’s teeth for a productive school year.

  • Reestablish your dental routine.

  • Provide a toothbrush for at-school use. 

A great way to take care of your child’s teeth is to send a mini toothpaste, toothbrush, and a flosser in their lunch box. After they are done with the lunch, the kit in their lunchbox will remind them to clean their teeth. It is a great way to take care and tell your kids the importance of dental health. 

  • Avoid sugary drinks. 

Be careful while choosing back-to-school snacks or lunch for your kids. Excess sugar content promotes tooth decay, infection, and cavities. Doctors recommend treating your kid with nuts, cheese, yogurts, etc., as they do not contain refined sugars but are kids’ favorites too. 

  • Get a mouthguard. 

This is especially required for kids who play sports frequently in school. Many sports-playing children do not wear a mouthguard, which is why they suffer from extreme injuries. Contact sports like soccer, hockey, and basketball can cause collisions and injuries. Talk to your dentist about creating a custom mouthguard for your child. 

  • Drink a lot of water. 

Another important tip to maintain dental hygiene as well as to beat the summer heat is to drink a lot of water. Water helps prevent dry mouth and bacteria growth. 

  • Schedule your dental visit. 

You do not want your child to start feeling a toothache in the middle of school. This is why it is important to schedule a dental visit right before school starts. Toothaches are painful and distracting. They can ruin your child’s fresh start to the year and hinder their academic performance.
